Through Discipline and Passion Comes Excellence

Just imagine all the possibilities

It is the intent of Carolyn Ellis School of Dance to provide an enriching dance experience to the broadest number of people through performances and classes in a happy, gentle, and safe environment that inspires excellence. Students are encouraged, through classes, workshops, public performances and individual attention, to follow their aspirations, whether to dance just for fun or seriously. All students use this professional atmosphere to grow and receive the opportunity to perform as an extension of class studies and to contribute culturally to the community. Carolyn Ellis School of Dance, owned and operated by Mallory Ward School of Dance, LLC, offers dance lessons for the fall through spring season and summer dance camps.

Our Dancewear Day is Saturday August 18th 2018             11:00am-6:00pm

Dancewear day is a time set aside to offer you an opportunity to purchase your required dance supplies for class.

All appropriate dance shoes and tights should be purchased through our dancewear company DanceMax. Lorna and her staff provide hours of preparation for services to equip our students with correct shoes and tights for our studio. They travel twice a year to our studio with dancewear to offer customer service at your convenience. Their products provide the finest quality where your dancer’s feet and legs are concerned. I trust them to take care of you. We are providing you with a separate sheet with our list of supplies. Because you trust us to provide a safe learning environment for your dancer, please allow our experience to recognize the importance of proper shoes and their correct fitting for each dancer.

Taking a small amount of time to label dance items will save you tears and money. Make sure all shoes are in a bag also labeled with dancer’s name.  Although we have a lost and found box, most items are never retrieved due to lack of identifying names. If shoes are left at studio without a name in them they will be disposed of.

E: CLASSROOM EXPECTATIONS:

We want you to have fun and enjoy the experience of dance… In order to achieve success we must have some order and guidelines.

BEING LATE TO CLASS – We understand that being late is sometimes unavoidable, however, a dancer who is more than 10 minutes late for class may be asked by the teacher to observe rather than take class.  This is not a disciplinary measure, but it is done with the student’s best interests in mind — especially those where higher levels are concerned. A student who misses the beginning exercises runs the risk of injury by not being properly warmed up.  Please make sure the student understands this. ~STUDENTS MUST MAKE EVERY EFFORT TO BE ON TIME & ATTEND EVERY CLASS.

ATTENDANCE: PLEASE inform our desk of missed classes due to sickness or other. We miss you when you are not in class!  Regular class attendance insures a successful dancer and a dance year.

PLEASE UNDERSTAND THAT WHEN A DANCER IS SICK WE WOULD RATHER YOU STAY HOME AND DECREASE THE SPREAD OF GERMS!!!!!!!!!!!

Please note: STUDENTS WHO MISS MORE THAN 6 CLASSES (without making up these missed classes) WILL BE UNABLE TO PERFORM IN THE ANNUAL RECITAL, in the event this happens a student can arrange for private lessons.  We offer make-up classes … Please call to schedule your day & time

In the event of inclement weather we will notify by Remind 101 and/or our Facebook page. We will attempt to reschedule a make-up class for the canceled class but cannot guarantee availability in schedule.

CLASS BEHAVIOR:            Apply our W.O.R.K. Motto

We Owe ourselves and others Respect and Knowledge through P’s… Patience, Practice, Performance, Prayer, Preparation, Persistence, Positive attitudes & many more…

Warnings and removal from class ~ Examples:

Excessive talking, poor attitudes, bad behavior, and non- preparation for dance class.

If a child exhibits bad behavior the following actions can occur:

Younger students can expect to be warned of our honey chair (a place where dancers become sweeter)

Older students can expect Parent intervention with studio staff and/or removal from class and studio.

NO CELL PHONES ALLOWED IN DANCE CLASSROOM!

We all want the studio to be a fun place where friendships are kindled but it also is a place where we should respect one another in and out of class. It only takes a few to ruin it for others.

CORRECTIONS. For obtaining proper technique … There will be times when teachers will employ hands-on adjusting corrections to the students for instructional purposes.

F: LOBBY ETIQUETTE for all dancers, parents and others…

To provide a safe environment, we expect no horseplay inside or outside the studio, it is your responsibility as a parent to have control of your children at all times while you are inside/outside our studio. A cover up should be worn on arrival and dismissal of all dancers. Parents, Dancers & others: Keep volume to a minimum to not disturb class.

G: RECITAL

A fun experience to showcase all the hard work our dancers have achieved through the year. We provide a professional production appropriate for family viewing.

The recital should be the 3rd weekend of May, which is the weekend before Memorial Day. There will be on stage rehearsals the same week. Videotaping and photographs ARE NOT PERMITTED at the recital, although you may video and take pictures at dress rehearsalsThere will be a professional videographer and photographer present and will have photos and DVD’s available for purchase.  Costumes are required for each routine a student performs in the recital. Price range $60-$80.00 each (with the younger classes at the low end).  We include a recital fee along with our costume deposit. Costume/recital fees are non-refundable, and are scheduled into two payments October 15th & December 1st. A notice of estimated costs will be issued during September.

We will be using email, our website & Facebook as the major way of communicating with our dance family. We believe in keeping everybody informed. If at any time your e-mail is changed or is no longer in use, please inform our desk immediately. If you don’t have e-mail you will be responsible for information. It is always best to check with our desk for information that is given out. Remember we share the most important person in your life… your child. We have to establish a relationship between parent, dancer & teacher, to do this Communication is Imperative.

In order to communicate better, we will be using Remind 101. Remind is a free text messaging app that helps teachers, students, and parents communicate quickly and efficiently. Please make sure we have the most current and best cell phone number to reach you.

J: PARENT INVOLVEMENT:

Parental involvement is always encouraged and applauded at our studio. There are a few times during the year that your participation will be expected…  A few of these are:  Attending our policy/procedure meeting with a pickup up of our studio newsletter, pick-up of recital costumes in the spring, and picture day and recital rehearsals … Be sure to mark your calendars. We always welcome your assistance with backstage help during recital(s).

QUESTIONS/CONCERNS/FEEDBACK:

Communication with our students and their families is very important to us. If in the event a problem or concern may arise, or you would like to provide feedback about any of our operations, please contact our studio office at 229.382.9466. By policy instructors are to remain focused on their class and the development of their students. It is for this reason that our office will be the point of contact between all instructors and families.
